Dr Tamara Meuwese
Tamara and her husband, both South African Chiropractors have recently moved to the Sunshine State after spending 13 years living in Kuala Lumpur.
Tamara has a master’s in chiropractic, a PhD in Radiology and over 18 years of international clinical experience. As well as treating the spine, she has a special interest in upper and lower limb conditions that commonly affect the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle and foot.
She enjoys using Diagnostic Ultrasound as an imaging modality to assess her patients and also has a wealth of experience in utilising Shockwave Therapy, Spinal Decompression Traction (for disc pathology ), Corrective Knee Bracing (for Knee Osteoarthritis), Foot Orthotics and Rehabilitative Exercise.
Dr Tamara made a move to full-time Academics in 2015 to the International Medical University (IMU), where she held positions as both Head of Department and Programme Director and completed her PhD in Radiology in 2017 at UPM, one of Malaysia’s top ranked research universities. During this time, she also held multiple term appointments with the Malaysian Government, as Subject Matter Expert and Joint Technical Committee member under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, as a recognised authority in the field of Chiropractic and co-authored and published Chiropractic research papers of her own.
Her real passion, however, has always been as a patient-facing clinician, hence her decision to return to full time clinical practice here in Australia. She believes that a multi-modal approach to patient care results in better long-term outcomes.
When not treating patients, Tamara enjoys spending time at Brisbane’s local farmer’s markets and with her three cats.
